Entrenchment Under a blood red sky heavy with the dreary dawn, we waited. We, having been foolish enough to enlist in the military with the threat of World War I hanging over the world's collective head, were stuck sitting a godforsaken scratch in the ground, affectionately (and euphemistically) called a trench, which threatened to crush us with its melancholy jaws of dirt and sandbags. We were the few, the proud, the Marines. We were the weary, the beaten, the dead.
